How to Fix High CPU Temps & Thermal Throttling

By JBX Tech Experts • Published August 2026

Stop FPS Drops & CPU Overheating

When a processor hits 95°C - 100°C under load, thermal throttling automatically lowers CPU clock speeds to prevent hardware damage, causing severe in-game frame rate drops.

5 Step-by-Step Thermal Fixes:

  1. Repaste Thermal Paste (Arctic MX-6 / Noctua NT-H2): Dried-up factory thermal paste loses thermal conductivity. Clean old paste with isopropyl alcohol and reapply fresh thermal compound.
  2. Clean Dust Filters & Heatsink Fins: Accumulated dust chokes airflow across radiator fins.
  3. Upgrade Cooler (Air Cooler vs. 240mm/360mm AIO): Stock coolers are insufficient for modern 100W+ CPUs. Upgrading to a dual-tower air cooler (Thermalright Peerless Assassin) or 360mm AIO drops temps by 20°C.
