How to Clone HDD to SSD Without Reinstalling Windows

By JBX Tech Experts • Published August 2026

Instant Speed Upgrade with Zero Data Loss

Cloning migrates your entire operating system, software licenses, game installs, and personal files from an old mechanical HDD to a lightning-fast SSD without needing a clean Windows reinstallation.

Step-by-Step Cloning Process:

  1. Connect New SSD: Connect your new SSD using a USB to SATA/NVMe adapter enclosure or insert it into a secondary M.2 slot on the motherboard.
  2. Launch Free Disk Cloning Software: Use Macrium Reflect Free, Hasleo Disk Clone, or Samsung Data Migration.
  3. Select Source & Target Disks: Select your old HDD as "Source" and the new SSD as "Target". Align partitions for 4K SSD performance.
  4. Swap Boot Priority in BIOS: Restart your PC, press F2/Del to enter BIOS, and set the new SSD as the primary #1 Boot Device.
